World Next Tallest Building in Jeddah

THE record for the world's tallest tower is set to be broken yet again... this time by the Bin Laden family.
The new skyscraper will measure one kilometre high and will be located in Saudi Arabia. The tower will outdo Gulf neighbour Dubai, which inaugurated its own record-breaking skyscraper the 828m Burj Khalifa less than two years ago.
The Saudis awarded a more than $1 billion contract for a spire, to be named the Kingdom Tower. It will have a Four Seasons hotel, serviced apartments, luxury condominiums and offices, encompassing, in all, about half a million square metres.
Kingdom Holding Co, the investment firm headed by billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, said it signed a $1 billion deal with the Saudi Binladen Group to build Kingdom Tower on the outskirts of the Red Sea city of Jeddah.
The Saudi construction giant is owned by the family of Osama bin Laden. The family disavowed the slain al-Qaeda terror group leader years ago.
"We intend Kingdom Tower to become both an economic engine and a proud symbol of the Kingdom's economic and cultural stature in the world community,'' Talal Al Maiman, a board member of KHC and the Jeddah Economic Co, a KHC-affiliate that signed the deal with the Binladen Group, said.
"We envision Kingdom Tower as a new iconic marker of Jeddah's historic importance as the traditional gateway to the holy city of Mecca.''
The tower, designed by Chicago-based Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture, is the first phase of the planned Kingdom City, a sprawling, $20 billion, two-square mile urban development project first announced in 2008 as the global financial crisis was squeezing world markets.
It is one of several ambitious mega-ventures in the kingdom.
In June 2009, KHC signed a deal with Dubai-based Emaar Properties to develop and oversee the construction of Kingdom City and Kingdom Tower. Emaar, which is partly owned by Dubai's government, is the developer of the tallest building in the world Burj Khalifa.
Alwaleed's proposed skyscraper would shatter the record for Burj Khalifa, which has 160 livable floors and includes a boutique Armani hotel.
At 828 metres, Burj Khalifa is not only the tallest building but also the tallest free-standing structure in the world. By comparison, the tallest building in the US, the Willis Tower in Chicago, stands at 442 metres, although counting its antenna towers it rises to 527 metres. The One World Trade Centre tower being built in New York will measure 541 metres with its antenna spire (417m without). It's due for completion in 2013.
The Binladen company is developing a seven-tower complex in the holy city of Mecca that includes what is billed as the world's largest clock, set on a four-faced tower.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow are teasing tomorrow's new trailer for director Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow with a new video you can watch it here.
Opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on June 6, the sci-fi thriller stars Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Jeremy Piven, Ciaran Hinds, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda and Tony Way.
The movie is based on the acclaimed novel "All You Need is Kill" by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
The action unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

Batman: Arkham Knight-Feature Announced

Batman: Arkham Knight announced, will feature driveable Batmobile.

Holy crunching punches, readers! Warner Brothers have revealed the third Rocksteady Arkham game, which will be called Batman: Arkham Knight. Billed as the "explosive finale" to the series, it'll feature a larger open world, and a now driveable Batmobile to navigate it Also Play as Harley Quinn. A new trailer sets the scene, opening with a parental monologue, and ending with the inevitable fisticuffs.
"Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city he is sworn to protect," explains the trailer's description. "The Scarecrow returns to unite an impressive roster of super villains, including Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn, to destroy The Dark Knight forever."
Perhaps more exciting than the bosses, or the return of Arkham series to its original creators, is the scope of the city. The Batmobile wouldn't have made sense in the scale of the previous games, so that it's included here suggests a much bigger area to play around in.
Better still, we don't have years to wait. The game will be released for PC, PS4 and Xbox one sometime later this year. All in all, it sounds like an exciting return to Gotham, even if it's hard to glean too much info from the trailer's CGI. That said, it would have been nice if WB could have held off on their pre-order bonus announcement until sometime after the actual announcement.
Release Date: 10/14/14

Batman: Arkham Knight

Batman: Arkham Knight's Gotham will be five times larger than Arkham City

Batman is at his best when he reflects the world he's always trying to save from itself. In the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight, that world is reportedly getting a lot bigger and more dangerous, according to information in the latest Game Informer magazine. With the Rocksteady series coming to an end with its third entry, it seems clear the studio is narrowing in on what's made the Arkham games one of the best depictions of Batman in any medium.
"The Arkham games have always been about providing that power fantasy, about being and feeling like Batman," Rocksteady game director Sefton Hill tells GI. "We're going to take it further with the addition of the Batmobile and the bigger city."
The Batmobile has always felt like the perfect expression of the Batman story, in that it's the result of Bruce Wayne's intelligence, wealth, and lack of superhuman powers. It's an extension of his armored cowl and it's clear Rocksteady thinks introducing the vehicle will only deepen the experience of immersion that's been so vital to the Arkham games.
"We've known it's what people want," Hill says. "When you're Batman you do think Batmobile, it's the one key thing we felt we really always wanted to do. And also that refreshes the whole experience ... What we're always trying to do is [make] every game feel like a new game rather than another episode of the last one".
Some more key Arkham Knight details:
  • The "Arkham Knight" is actually the name of a new rival for Batman created by DC Entertainment's Geoff Johns
  • The new Gotham City setting is five times as big as Arkham City
  • Enemy goons are more plentiful and have been given new tools to take out Batman
  • The countering system returns and remains central to combat in Arkham Knight
  • Arkham Knight's story takes place one year after the events in Arkham City
